Hip Related Pain

Hip Related Pain

Hip pain can arise from the soft tissue that surrounds the joint or from the joint itself. Joint pain that is related to the joint itself occurs due to degenerative or inflammatory conditions affecting the joint, such as osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Other causes of hip pain can include impingement syndrome, femoracetabular impingement, labral tears, fractures and avascular necrosis.

Careful diagnosis, detailed history taking and thorough physical examinations are required when assessing and treating the hip. Many structures around the hip joint can masquerade as hip pain, and, can in actual fact be referring from the lower back, sacroiliac joint area or even the knee joint.

Most of these conditions can be treated successfully with conservative measures of physiotherapy, however, severe joint conditions can require surgical intervention such as total hip replacement
